The Congress of the United States of America has reiterated its stance on the ongoing Anglophone Crisis.In a three page letter addressed to President Paul Biya, US congress explains that unlike the picture painted by the regime, the situation on the ground is deteriorating.With over 2000 dead and close to a million internally displaced, “ongoing insecurity and violence in the North West and South West have had a ruinous effect on the economy” the letter states.

With “the failure of various internal initiatives to halt the crisis”, US congress in the letter has encouraged President Biya to accept the Swiss led meditation to end the crisis.”Military action can not solve this conflict ” it adds. Despite rights violations by non state armed groups, “a broad spectrum of international and domestic experts disagree with the Cameroon government’s assertion that non state armed groups are responsible for most of the violence”.Among other grave happenings, “Soldiers have raped women either for opportunistic or punitive reasons” it adds, explaining that some persons authority too misused their power at several instances especially during the registration for next year’s twin election.US congress went on to warn that subsequent US-Cameroon relations will depend on government’s commitment to engage in sincere dialogue.US it should be recalled had earlier cut Cameroon off from the Africa Growth And Opportunities Act, AGOA on the basis of human rights violations.
