ISRAËL COMMET-IL UN REMAKE DE GAZA AU LIBAN, DANS LE MÊME MUTISME DES GRANDES PUISSANCES OCCIDENTALES ?
Non seulement M. Netanyahu et ses alliés sionistes les plus extrémistes ont détourné nos écrans à travers le monde pour diffuser en direct l’horreur de Gaza, mais ils semblent désormais franchir un nouveau seuil en attaquant le Liban, au risque d’y reproduire une logique d’occupation militaire comparable à celle imposée à Gaza et en Cisjordanie.
Nous sommes pleinement conscients que ces dirigeants fanatisés, animés par une vision messianique et apocalyptique, jettent ainsi les dés d’un engrenage dont personne ne maîtrise l’issue. Convaincus d’agir au nom de Dieu ou de l’Histoire, ils transforment la religion en instrument de justification politique, militaire et idéologique.
Au CL2P, nous ne pouvons que faire écho aux sentiments exprimés par le pape Léon : il est véritablement difficile de concevoir comment Dieu pourrait récompenser des individus qui, les mains tachées de sang, instrumentalisent la religion pour justifier la destruction, la déshumanisation et la mort de populations civiles.
Parallèlement, au sein du CL2P, nous assumons pleinement avoir été des critiques constants du régime d’extrême droite israélien dirigé par M. Netanyahu. Nous ne saurions toutefois être accusés de céder à une quelconque irrationalité antisioniste pour avoir dénoncé les actes graves commis depuis l’attaque du Hamas du 7 octobre — attaque que nous avons condamnée sans ambiguïté.
En effet, nous ne voyons pas comment une réaction moindre face aux destructions massives, aux pertes humaines et au sort infligé aux populations civiles ne reviendrait pas à encourager l’extrémisme, la punition collective et la violence d’État. De la même manière, nous ne voyons pas comment la transformation du Liban en un nouveau Gaza pourrait être autre chose que l’ouverture des portes de l’enfer pour l’ensemble du Moyen-Orient, fermant ainsi la porte à toute possibilité de résolution pacifique de ce conflit dans le monde arabe.
Dans nos luttes inlassables pour les droits humains, nous savons douloureusement que les dictatures et les régimes extrémistes ont un coût incroyablement élevé : libertés civiles bafouées, machines de guerre, pertes humaines colossales — en particulier parmi les enfants — mais aussi coûts financiers directs, inefficacité économique systémique et mobilisation de ressources immenses pour alimenter des machines de guerre nécropolitiques.
Le cas de M. Netanyahu est d’autant plus alarmant que nul ne sait jusqu’où peut conduire cette fuite en avant militaire, idéologique et religieuse. Ce qui est certain, en revanche, c’est qu’en poursuivant cette logique de guerre totale, il pousse toute la région — et peut-être bien au-delà — vers une catastrophe dévastatrice.

Israel Commits a Gaza Remake in Lebanon — Amid the Same Silence from Major Western Powers
Not only have Mr. Netanyahu and his Zionist, extremist, and apocalyptic allies hijacked screens across the globe to broadcast, live, the ongoing horror in Gaza, but they are now crossing the Rubicon by attacking Lebanon and threatening to reproduce there the same logic of occupation already imposed on Gaza and the West Bank.
We are fully aware that these fanatical and messianic leaders are casting the dice of a regional catastrophe, convinced that their actions will be rewarded by God and that they will be consecrated as the Lord’s “chosen people.”
At CL2P, we can only echo the sentiments expressed by Pope Leo: it is truly difficult to conceive how God could reward individuals who, with blood-stained hands, instrumentalize religion to justify destruction, dehumanization, and the mass killing of civilian populations.
At the same time, within CL2P, we are fully aware that we have been consistent critics of the Israeli government under Mr. Netanyahu. However, we cannot be accused of suffering from any form of “Zionist irrationality syndrome” for denouncing the grave acts committed since the Hamas attack of October 7 — an attack we condemned unequivocally.
Indeed, we fail to see how anything less than such a reaction would not amount to encouraging extremism, collective punishment, and genocidal violence. Likewise, we fail to see how the transformation of Lebanon into a new Gaza could be anything other than the opening of the gates of hell for the entire Middle East, thereby foreclosing any possibility of a peaceful resolution to this conflict within the Arab world.
In our tireless struggles for human rights, we are painfully aware that dictatorships and extremist regimes come at an incredibly high cost — not only in terms of trampled civil liberties, war machines, and colossal human casualties, especially among children, but also through the burden of direct financial costs, systemic economic inefficiency, and the immense capital required to sustain these necropolitical war machines.
The case of Mr. Netanyahu is even more alarming, for no one knows how the world could survive an apocalyptic escalation that he himself does not control, yet which he continues to encourage, pushing the entire region — and perhaps far beyond it — toward devastating catastrophe.
