Et dire que certains d’entre-nous, par solidarité progressiste et panafricaine, avons effectivement cru en cet odieux personnage au point de penser qu’il pouvait suivre les pas de Mandela…participant notamment à des rassemblements pour sa libération par Lansana Conte, puis en faveur de sa participation à une élection présidentielle libre, pluraliste et transparente en Guinée…

Puis patatras….Une fois au pouvoir à Conakry, il se sera révélé comme l’une des plus grandes déceptions des opposants historiques africains.

Quelle tragédie!!!

En effet, l’homme s’est avéré être totalement impitoyable, sans vergogne et ouvertement hypocrite avec le pouvoir.

L’ironie est qu’il a sous-estimé l’homme qu’il a choisi pour faire son sale boulot de chef de sa garde prétorienne. En effet, le lieutenant-colonel Mamady Doumbouya avec ses 18 ans dans la légion française, avait développé une colonne vertébrale, et a appris à jouer au fer et à l’acier pour la confrontation brutal à venir avec le dictateur.

Quelques autres importantes généralités à ajouter, si vous me le permettez.

L’idée que le régime d’Alpha Condé était tout sauf démocratique est ridicule. L’idée que les institutions guinéennes, sous Alpha Condé, représentaient ce phare brillant sur la colline pour inspirer le monde… était simplement de la propagande pour les idiots et les cupides. Nous avons laissé tout ça de côté, il y a longtemps, et avons refusé d’adhérer à ce mythe fantoche il y a belle lurette.

Le coup d’État contre Alpha Condé est bien sûr une réponse perverse à sa dictature. Cependant, une dose de réalité pourrait aider les institutions, telles que les Nations Unies, la CEDEAO et ECOWAS, à voir la décadence institutionnelle et constitutionnelle qui les entoure et les amener à soutenir les changements nécessaires en Guinée. C’est cette pourriture institutionnelle et constitutionnelle qui permet à des forces antidémocratiques et violentes, que ces institutions supranationales dénoncent, d’émerger en premier lieu.

Deuxièmement, le culte de l’immortalité obscène, répandu en Afrique francophone, est une relique ridicule du passé traditionnel avec une espérance de vie inférieure et devrait être abandonné dès que possible.

The Dictator and the Barbouze

And to think that some of us, out of progressive solidarity and Pan-Africanism, have indeed supported this odious character to the point of thinking that he could follow in Mandela’s footsteps … putting together rallies to demand his release from Lansana Conte, then in favor of his participation in a free, pluralist and transparent presidential election in Guinea …

Then patatras ….Once in power in Conakry, he will have proved to be one of the greatest disappointments of African historical opponents.

What a tragedy!!!

Indeed, the man turned out to be utterly ruthless, shamelessly brazen and openly hypocritical with power.

The irony is that he underestimated the man he handpicked to do his dirty job. Indeed, Lieutenant-Colonel Mamady Doumbouya with his 18 years in the French legion, had a spine, and learned how to play hardball and steel himself for the brutal fight ahead.

A few further general things to add, if I may.

The idea that Alpha Conde’s regime was anything but democratic is ludicrous.

The continuing charade about Guinea’s institutions … that shining beacon on the hill to inspire the world … is well past its “best-by-date”. We gave it a rest, a long time ago, and refuse to buy into the myth. The coup against, Alpha Conde is, of course, a perverse response to his dictatorship, however, a dose of reality might help institutions, such as the United Nations and Ecowas, see the institutional and constitutional decay all around them and propel them to support the necessary changes in Guinea. It is that institutional and constitutional rot that allow anti-democratic and violent forces, that these supranational institutions decry, to emerge in the first place.

Secondly, the cult of obscene immortality, prevalent in Francophone Africa, to anything is a ridiculous relic of traditional past with lower life-expectancy and should be dispensed with at the earliest possible opportunity.
