The Authenticity of a Cameroonian identity: A Shocking mystification…

I am always very sad when an intellectual, for reasons that escape me in a particularly deleterious context in Cameroon, cannot avoid the temptation of historical revisionism. Especially when it comes to you as a particularly committed intellectual and politician, one of whom, I have courageously campaigned for liberation, and then helped your extraction from the despot of Yaoundé’s infamous prisons, so that you can find refuge in Germany, a democratic country.
It does not make any sense that you have now become an apologist for your former jailers with your conversion to reactionary politics. As you must know, ethno-fascism was always the underlying unifying logic underwriting the Biya’s regime. Consequently and unfortunately now, this reactionary shift lends credibility to Patrice Nganang’s assertion that “there is a francophone intellectual conspiracy to subdue English speakers into total silence.”
Ethno-fascism cannot be a proper motivation or democratic politics. As a matter of facts, many of us who, although of Cameroonian origin and proud of our origins, sometimes bi-national for many varied reasons, but nevertheless concerned about the political emancipation of Cameroon, cannot follow your reasoning precisely because we are also investing in the noble struggle for diversity, integration and full citizenship in our host countries …for immigrants and people who have not asked to be born there.
Hence, we are troubled by your promotion of an ideology tainted by the far right National Front and its Germans, Austrians counterparts and so on propaganda … an ideology that aims to trap us into racial bullshitting and ghetto, in a world where we are more than the sums of our parts. Race and false consciousness is at the root of all present populism in a deep and quite complex way. If you cannot deconstruct that, you become a useful idiot and easily a minor partner in coalition with genocidal mania is it here or in Cameroon.
Therefore, in view of our diverse background in this country that is Cameroon, to suggest that there is a kind of an authentic Cameroonian identity, in including the two English-speaking regions, is simply the stuff of mystification and shocking.
Whoever is not prepared to discuss Biya’s dictatorship should also remain silent about ethno-fascism

Je suis toujours très peiné quand un intellectuel, pour des raisons qui m’échappent dans un contexte particulièrement délétère au Cameroun, ne parvient pas à éviter la tentation du révisionnisme historique. Surtout quand il s’agit comme toi d’un intellectuel et homme politique particulièrement engagé, dont quelques uns d’entre-nous avons courageusement milité en faveur de la libération, puis extrait des geôles infâmes du despote de Yaoundé, afin que tu puisses trouver refuge en Allemagne, un pays démocratique.
Les réactions d’approbation des tenants habituels de ta nouvelle ligne identitaire et réactionnaire (tes anciens geôliers) devraient d’autant t’interpeller, et tendraient hélas à confirmer l’affirmation de Patrice Nganang, lorsqu’il dit, je cite: «il y a comme une conspiration intellectuelle francophone pour mater les Anglophones dans le silence total.»
Ressaisissons-nous!
Je pense que nombre d’entre-nous qui, bien que camerounais d’origine et fiers de nos origines, devenus parfois bi-nationaux pour des raisons multiples et variées, mais néanmoins soucieux de l’émancipation politique du Cameroun, ne pouvons suivre ton raisonnement, précisément parce que nous nous investissons aussi dans le noble combat pour l’intégration et la pleine citoyenneté des personnes issues de la grande diversité dans nos pays d’accueil…qui n’ont pas demandé à naître là.
Nous retrouvons étonnement dans ton discours tout le formatage idéologique de l’extrême droite du Front national à ses homologues Allemands, Autrichiens et j’en passe… qui conditionnent et déterminent nos faits et gestes respectifs à nos origines ethniques, dans un monde à jamais intégré où un Camerounais est bien plus que la matrice mère dans laquelle il est né, d’où sont ou seraient issus ses parents et ancêtres…
D’ailleurs au regard de nos origines diverses et plurielles dans ce pays qu’est le Cameroun, laissez entendre qu’il y aurait une sorte d’authenticité identitaire camerounaise, y compris dans les deux régions anglophones, participe simplement de la mystification.
